Liposuction involves removing deposits of excess fat with specialist surgical equipment.
How is Liposuction performed?
How long the treatment takes depends of the area size and the amount of fat to remove. The procedure can be done under intravenous sedation combined with local anesthesia which numbs the relevant part of your body. Should the treatment require it, general anesthesia can also be used.
Our surgeon inserts a cannula – a narrow tube – through a tiny incision in your skin. This is pushed and pulled repeatedly through the layer of fat, which breaks up the cells and removes them by suction. Depending on your procedure, the doctor might employ a ‘dry’ technique, or a ‘tumescent’ technique which introduces large amounts of fluid. Bear in mind that you will need to wear pressure bandages or a supportive corset on the areas you have had treated after the surgery.
Why choose Liposuction?
• If you wish to have more contoured and defined ankles, calves, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, arms, neck or chin.
• If you need to have a lipoma – a benign, non-cancerous fat tumor removed
• If you are a male who has developed gynecomastia – fatty ‘breasts’
• If you wish to adjust the shape of your breasts after reconstructive surgery
Is Liposuction for me?
Yes, if you are of a relatively average weight for your height and size but you have excess fat in certain places. Firm skin with elasticity will give a better final resulting contour after surgery.
The risks of Liposuction
Just like any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with having liposuction but these are actually very small and infrequent. Risks can include: bleeding under the skin (hematoma) after surgery. Scarring: although in the majority of people scarring is minimal, though lumpy red scars can form in some patients. Infection: this is unusual after liposuction but if it does occur you will need antibiotics. Irregularities in skin contour and depressions in the skin may occur. Wet liposuction can infrequently cause pulmonary edema (the buildup of fluid in the lungs) and will need immediate treatment. The fluid used may also cause allergic reactions in some patients.
When you contact us for an online consultation these will be made clear to you. If you have any queries at all about your procedure, please ask us as many questions as you wish. You should also inform us if you have any history of disease, are taking medication or you have any known illness that may potentially affect your surgery.
Risks differ from patient to patient depending on certain factors however the surgeons at BB Clinic & Beauty Center have an excellent track record of outstanding results.
Please note that it is not possible to guarantee symmetry in the body’s appearance, or smooth skin after liposuction. You may feel a little numbness and you might have a significant amount of bruising and swelling – this can sometimes take a few months to disappear completely.
